St. Helena

Re-entries

This tiny British Crown Colony island in the Atlantic Ocean 1200 miles west of Angola issued only a small handful of stamps (Scott Classic Specialized lists only 47 issued between 1856 and 1893).

Major Misplaced Entry

This beautiful major misplaced entry shows an incredible 4.8mm shift downwards. There is evidence of the shift found throughout the design, but notice particularly the upper horizontal frameline and portions of the design directly below the ‘S’ of ‘ST’ and across to the right side of the design, the design in the right (and left) centre portion of the white portrait oval, and the lower left corner ornamental design. There are also multiple other signs in much of the lettering, as well as the Queen’s profile. See the close-ups for better detail. This is a truly spectacular errant entry!

Major Misplaced Entry

This is another beautiful major misplaced entry showing the design of the lower right corner impressed upon the upper right corner and to the right into the margin. There are also remnants of doubling found in several of the letters of St. Helena.

This illustrates what might have happened with the above stamp, as well, which shows an entry misplaced too low...the errant entry could well have affected the stamp below if it was rocked all the way down, resulting in a similar misplaced entry as we see here! It would be most interested to find the mate to the above stamp!
